This may mean ensuring you have the right equipment and clothing required for tasks. Most winter related problems can be avoided with good preparation.Equipment / water fed pole system. When water turns to ice it expands, anything full of water is a risk of cracking or breaking when temperatures drop. If the forecast is anywhere near zero degrees or below the prepare the evening before. Prevention: Take the hose, backpack etc inside where possible Depress water pumps Insulate the water tanks where possible Ensure heater is working May need to disconnect hoses from filters or pumps to allow remaining water to escape Ensuring there is salt/grit in the vanGritting/SaltingGive a generous spread of salt / grit to areas with water spillage. Pay particular attention to areas where people will be walking, i.e., entrance ways, walkways etc. Salt can stop ice from forming and causing a slip hazard.Working – reduce water spillage.Freezing cold weather causes problems whilst cleaning. Excess water left can cause a slip hazard to anyone so the less water spillage in cold weather the better. You must act before, during and after cleaning. Use warning signage/cones Consider an exclusion zone to divert public etc from the working area. Consider rescheduling some work to warmer times of the year. To reduce water use you may need to divert to traditional methods rather than WFP.Training completion Supervisor signature Sign Here Submit
